Championship side Sheffield Wednesday is lining up a move for young talent Freddy Jeffreys to replace Saints prodigy Shea Charles.
In recent years, Southampton FC has been considerably dependent on their young players. That is also the reason why, the Saints often rate potential talents very highly.
In 2023, Southampton invested £10.5M in such a Manchester City prodigy, Shea Charles. However, Charles didn't have a comfortable time adapting here and was given on loan, a year later to Sheffield Wednesday.
And guess what, he has already become one of the key players for Danny Röhl's Sheffield Wednesday. To the extent that Southampton's decision to call Charles back from his loan spell has caused havoc for Röhl's side.
In a media address(via The Star), Röhl said: “I must say that I’m really sad. I had a conversation with Shea, and I highly rate him because of how he’s developed and improved. He’s a big player for us."
Clearly, Charles' exit might leave a huge void for Röhl's Sheffield side, who are confident of a great future for the 21-year-old ahead.
But what is even more interesting is that the club has begun preparing a move for a former Saints target to replace Shea Charles.
As per The Star, the Championship side has called previously Southampton eyed prodigy, Freddy Jeffreys for a trial.
After Jeffreys' U-19 EFL Youth Alliance win, he had been linked to Southampton in June 2022, but a move couldn't be finalized.
However, now the Bradford star has an opportunity once again, for a jump from League Two to the Championship.
Clearly, Jeffreys has immense potential, which was evident when his side dominated Man City's youth in the EFL Trophy 2023. Just the question, remains if he can impress the selectors and earn himself a contract here.
