FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on whether the club should sign Manchester City loanee Jaden Heskey permanently.

A new era is underway at Sheffield Wednesday after David Storch completed his takeover of the club.

It has been an incredibly difficult period for Wednesday, with the club spending over six months in administration after former owner Dejphon Chansiri's exit in October and suffering the earliest relegation in English football history in February.

However, it was a day of celebration at Hillsborough on Saturday after it was announced that the takeover by Storch's Arise Capital Partners had been finalised, while it was also revealed that the Owls will not face a 15-point deduction in League One next season.

In a further boost ahead of the upcoming campaign, Wednesday will not be subject to a £7,000 weekly wage cap or a £7 million seasonal spend, meaning the club will be able to operate without restrictions in the transfer market this summer.

While Storch has only been officially in charge for a matter of days, it seems the Owls are already making plans for next season, and according to The Wednesday Word, the club are exploring the possibility of a permanent deal for Manchester City loanee Jaden Heskey.

After joining Wednesday on loan in January, Heskey made 20 appearances in the second half of the season, with all but one of those coming from the start, and manager Henrik Pedersen appears keen to bring the 20-year-old back to South Yorkshire on a full-time basis.

When asked whether the club should pursue a permanent deal for Heskey, FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna admitted that he was not too impressed by the midfielder during his loan spell, but he claimed that he could be a smart long-term investment for the club.

"Jaden Heskey's spell with us has been in challenging circumstances, but for the majority of his loan, he hasn't really done that much," Patrick told FLW.

"There has been a bit of an improvement in recent games, that could be because Nathaniel Chalobah was there beside him.

"He certainly has the ability to be a good player in League One, and I think that it's a good chance for him to develop and progress his career by getting regular football at League One level.

"He is certainly worth a punt.

"In the past, we haven't taken the punt on younger players with ability.

"I'd rather we were taking the punt on the likes of Heskey than older players.

"Heskey will have resale value as well, so that will show that we are finally moving to a model where you get in young players with potential and sell them on for a profit in the future.

"I think next season could be a real opportunity for Heskey and the club itself.

Jaden Heskey deserves fresh Sheffield Wednesday opportunity in League One

Heskey may not have particularly caught the eye during his loan stint at Wednesday, but it was tough for any player to show what they are truly capable of this season in a squad lacking the quality needed to even compete at Championship level.

After coming through the Manchester City academy, Heskey made his senior debut as a substitute in the EFL Cup victory at Huddersfield Town in September, and while that remains his only appearance for the club, the fact that Pep Guardiola opted to give him minutes is a big endorsement of his talent.

With their transfer restrictions now lifted, Wednesday will be able to build a strong squad ahead of their return to League One, which could allow Heskey to thrive, and if he was to kick on at Hillsborough, they could potentially make a significant profit on him in the future.
