Despite a promising start from Brentford it was the hosts who went ahead on 10 minutes, Will Grainger running onto a long ball, forcing his way past Connor Wolfheimer in goal and scoring.
The visitors were straight back on the attack and were rewarded for their efforts five minutes later. Domeiro Bobb-Semple crossed the ball from the left, missing Freddie Taylor’s outstretched foot by inches. The ball kept rolling to Bentt in the penalty area, who went past Logan Stretch in goal for the young Owls and equalised.
An even contest ensued, both sides enjoying time in possession and time in their opponents’ half of the pitch.
On 25 minutes Sheffield Wednesday pounced on a Brentford goal kick, eventually finding their way into the box, Grainger cutting it back to Aodhan Sopala who smashed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.
Bobb-Semple continued to pose a threat down the left and he played a good ball to Nedved Owusu at the back post just after the half-hour mark. Owusu played it back to Bentt who fired at goal but it was saved by Stretch.
As the half entered its final minutes Bobb-Semple challenged his defender down the left with a daring run, making his way into the box before being impeded by Stretch who got the ball out for a corner.
Owusu managed to find himself in space as the half entered added time, the winger shooting from the left side of the box, but it was straight into the hands of Stretch.
Coming out of the break, the young Bees were put under pressure early in the second half. The hosts fired two shots goalward in the opening three minutes, Taylor forced to clear one off the line to save a goal.
Caelen Cadamarteri found himself through on goal eight minutes later, however Evan Anderson did will to tip the powerful strike over the bar after replacing Wolfheimer in goal at half-time.
Cadamarteri was at it again minutes later as he again found himself in space streaming towards goal. The forward’s strike this time made it past Anderson, however cannoned into the post and back into the arms of the Brentford goalkeeper.
After a good spell the hosts got reward for effort on 66 minutes, Liam Clayton able to put the ball into the back of the net following a cross from the right side.
Despite going 3-1 down the young Bees didn’t let it deter them. Yerime Ouattara, who had replaced Matas Klimas at half-time, came close to pulling one back, but his shot smashed into the bar.
Despite continuous efforts to get a goal back and stage a comeback, Brentford fell to a 3-1 defeat.
