Sunderland are weighing key calls in the summer window, with Simon Adingra set to return and interest building in goalkeeper Matty Young.

NiceMatin reports that Monaco have opted against activating a permanent option in Adingra’s loan and will also pass on fellow loanee Wout Faes. The former Brighton and Hove Albion player recorded one goal and one assist in 15 games before leaving for Ligue 1 in January, and a long term decision now awaits after the World Cup.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, 19, continues to be linked with Liverpool after 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 matches prompted talk of a bid of over £100m. His agent, Wolfgang Meier, said: "During negotiations with Leipzig, things also became very concrete with Sunderland. However, they didn’t want to trigger the release clause. Many other clubs who could have paid the €20million said they found the player very interesting, but a transfer was too risky due to his limited playing time." He told Sky Sports.

Young, 19, returns after another strong spell with Salford City, where he kept 16 clean sheets in 50 appearances. The keeper previously impressed at Darlington and signed a long-term Sunderland deal last month. Journalist Alan Nixon has suggested Huddersfield Town are the latest side to show interest, with another loan expected.

Sunderland will look to add to their squad through the window while assessing returning loanees and potential exits.
