Arne Slot has demanded more from Liverpool despite the club’s 11-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
Liverpool have recovered from a tough run of form in the autumn to rediscover their form, with the Reds 11 unbeaten since a 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in late November. Slot’s side are fourth in the Premier League table and progressed in the FA Cup on Monday night.
However, the Dutchman has said his side can still get better, urging Liverpool to turn draws into wins. Liverpool have drawn each of their last three Premier League games and five of their last eight. The Premier League champions host Burnley at Anfield tomorrow.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of that clash, Slot said: “Ideally it’s not 11 games unbeaten, it’s 11 wins in a row. That is what we aim for.
“Aston Villa won a lot of games in a row but from where we were, when we conceded four goals against PSV Eindhoven to now, a much better place but there’s still enough room for improvement but there is always room for improvement, even last year when we were top of Premier League and Champions League at this time.”
Burnley are 19th in the table and eight points adrift of safety. Despite their position, Slot is taking nothing for granted after a tough test at Turf Moor earlier in the season.
“We just have to look at the game we played against them. It was the 95th minute when we at last got a penalty we deserved for a handball. But you never know if you would get it.
“Because a few weeks later, we had another referee or maybe it was the same referee, a clear handball against Manchester United and he didn’t think that was a penalty. So you never know what you get with referee decisions.
“[Burnley away] was a game we had multiple chances before we got that penalty but they made it really hard that day. They’ve made it really hard for other teams since as well. So yeah, we will be ready, looking forward to it, another home game where we want to show what we can do from all the ball possession.
“We have worked a lot on that and I am waiting for the moment things really click. The moment we generate more chances, we have to be a bit more open as well and in a certain periods this season we have conceded a lot of counter-attacks, so we have to find the ideal balance to create more and not concede many.”
