Arne Slot has said he is pleased after Liverpool secured the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.
The highly-rated defender will link up with Liverpool in the summer after the Reds agreed to pay a fee worth up to £60m. Jacquet has made just 29 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes but the 20-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s best defensive prospects.
His arrival is a major boost for Liverpool, with uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires in the summer.
Liverpool beat Bayern Munich and Chelsea to Jacquet’s signature and Slot has hailed the Frenchman as a ‘very big talent’.
“Very pleasing because he is a very big talent and maybe even more than a talent but we speak cause of his age,” Slot said to the media ahead of facing Manchester City this weekend.
“We weren’t the only ones interested in him so a big compliment to those who are signing the players. Another example of the model we use at this club: young, talented at the start of their careers, and can improve and help us for short and definitely long term.
“We have signed a lot of those recently and the mid to long-term future is in as very good place.”
