Enzo Fernandez’s form for Chelsea has been improving steadily since the end of 2024.
Manage Enzo Maresca moved him closer to goal with a few tactical tweaks, and it’s allowed the Argentine to start racking up goals and assists rather than just controlling play from deep.

Last night he picked up two more assists, and on the London is Blue podcast they hailed his impact:
“I think distribution-wise he’s been excellent. Obviously the two assists [last night] were excellent, I think the second ball in particular, to [Liam] Delap, is just so tasty,” presenter Nick Verlaney pointed out.
“That would add another two assists to his total goal contributions, which takes him to 25, one behind Cole Palmer’s total. He had a monster season under the radar. And I’m really happy with how he’s performing in this tournament,” fellow presenter Dan Dormer added.
“He sprayed a lot of balls out to the wings today which made Esperance spread out a little bit. We want him to continue this goal contributions streak. It’s harder for him to do that when he’s playing a double pivot all the way back there [at number 6]. So closer to goal, more production.”

We expect Enzo’s advanced role to continue next season, especially now the likes of Andrey Santos, Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia will be available to play deeper.
Maresca said that in the Flamengo game, Enzo and Cole Palmer had been playing in the same role behind the striker, and we can see that setup being used a lot next season.
It leaves room for two midfielders or even three midfielders behind them, giving us a lot of stability centrally at the expense of using wingers to stretch the game.
