Cole Palmer has claimed ‘social media is full of idiots’ after he ended his goal drought against Liverpool.
Palmer put in a man-of-the-match display as he scored his first goal in three months to help Chelsea beat the champions 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
The Englishman scored from the spot with the last kick of the game. Speaking to Sky Sports, he opened up on how he felt before taking the penalty: ”I just felt normal.
“Obviously sh*t happens, I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more motivation and more fight to do well, not just for myself but for my team.”
Palmer continued: “Social media nowadays is just full of idiots. All the trolls and whatever, so I don’t pay any attention to that.
“I’ve scored today and I’m happy but it’s only one and I’ve got to keep improving and try and reach new levels.”
Asked if it has been a tough couple of months for him, the Chelsea star admitted: “Well for anyone. You’re getting chances and you’re not scoring so obviously it’s gong to affect you. Because you’re letting your team down at the end of the day.
“I feel like I’m mentally strong anyway so whatever people say doesn’t bother me, I’ve had it all my life growing up so I don’t really care.
“But obviously I feel pride in helping the team and if I’m not doing that then obviously I’m not happy.”
The 22-year-old was back to his best this afternoon. He revealed: “Today I felt like myself, felt like I had before recent times. I felt confident, I was trying things- first time passes, playing forwards, playing free. And when you’ve got Caicedo next to you it’s a dream really.”
Palmer expanded on his praise for teammate Moise Caicedo: “From the start of the season until now I think he’s been our best player.
“He’s a machine. He wins everything back, always gives 100% every day, he’s humble, nice to everyone and everyone loves him.”
Caicedo returned the favour. The Colombian insisted: “Cole is an amazing guy, always works hard. I am so happy for him. He helps us a lot, even when he didn’t score he helped us. He’s a great guy and he deserves everything.”
