Manchester United’s pursuit of Carlos Baleba remains a possibility this summer. The club, as previously mentioned, are keeping a tight lid on things regarding their movements, but sources have told AttackingFootball today that a move for the midfielder remains a real possibility.

United fans are sweating over the possibility of Aurelien Tchouameni signing for the club this summer, but Baleba is still someone the club could and may turn to. Tchouameni links have begun to heat up again this evening due to the possibility of Real Madrid signing Rodri.

The feeling is that if Rodri signs, one of Eduardo Camavinga or Tchouameni would leave. The general belief is that it would be Camavinga who departs, with Tchouameni said to be close to signing a new deal with the Spanish club.

Baleba was open to joining United last summer, and as Fabrizio Romano reported today, the player and his team are still open to the move happening this summer. United are yet to make a final decision, and AttackingFootball must stress that we have been informed nothing concrete has happened as of yet, but the deal remains possible this summer without a doubt.

The interesting thing regarding the transfer will be the fee. How much will Brighton demand? Last summer it was felt £100m would bring the Seagulls to the negotiation table, but that may change this summer after a drop in form during large parts of last season. The drop in form could be traced back to Baleba wanting a move to United so much that it affected his performances. The Cameroon international is a player that ticks a lot of boxes regarding what United need, and arguably makes as much sense as a deal for Aurelien Tchouameni.

Outside of Baleba and Tchouameni, Sander Berge is said to be someone the club admires. Concrete links are difficult to find, however, as we previously mentioned, United have cut out a lot of leaks this summer, as they aim to move in silence. They have already done so in deals for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, and will be aiming to do so for the remainder of the summer if they can.

It’s a deal for now that might happen, and it’s certainly not something that feels like it has been discounted at the club just yet. Brighton are unlikely to stand in the way of the player leaving this summer, but will definitely be a difficult club to negotiate with, as they always are. United have only ever negotiated with Brighton for Toby Collyer, and refrained from entering into negotiations for the likes of Marc Cucurella when they were interested in the past.

There’s a chance Baleba could push for the move considering his camp reaching out to United today if the club do end up coming to the negotiation table in the coming weeks. There is nothing concrete decided from the Reds yet, as they likely aim to assess the market to make sure the direction they go in is the correct one.

The Manchester club will need to sign a third midfielder to replace the injured Manuel Ugarte and the departed Casemiro. Ederson from Atalanta looked to be someone the Reds were due to sign, but a failed medical meant Michael Carrick’s side pivoted. Ederson was left devastated, but has since signed a new deal at Atalanta, softening the blow.

No final decision has been made as of yet, but Baleba remains a deal that isn’t dead in the water yet, and definitely something to watch in the final months of the season.
