South African representatives in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC have learnt their fate for the preliminary rounds.

Last season’s Champions League runners-up, Sundowns, have been exempted from taking part in the first preliminary round due to their CAF ranking, which has them in second place behind Al Ahly. The Tshwane giants will face the winner between Remo Stars and US Zilimadjou in the second round.

Meanwhile, Pirates, who fell short in the semi-final stage last term, will tackle Lesotho champions Lioli FC in the first preliminary round. Should they reign supreme, the Buccaneers will battle for a group stage spot against Sudanese giants Al-Merriekh or the DRC representative.

The first leg of the first preliminary round is scheduled to take place between 19 to 21 September, while the second leg is penciled in for 26 to 28 September. The second preliminary round will kickoff between 17 to 19 October, while the second leg is set to for 24 to 26 October.

In the Confederation Cup, Stellenbosch FC, who were knocked out by Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the semi-final last season, have been exempted from the first preliminary round and will face either Foresters FC or FC 15 de Agosto de Akonibe in the second round.

On the other hand, continental football returnees, Chiefs, will do battle with Angolan side Kabuscorp DE P in the first preliminary round. Nasreddine Nabi’s men will face Djabal FC or the DRC representative should they secure passage to the second preliminary round.

Like Africa’s elite club competition, the first leg of the first preliminary round is set for 19 to 21 September, while the second leg is scheduled for 26 to 28 September. The second preliminary round will commence between 17 to 19 October, while the second leg is set to for 24 to 26 October.
