Jack Stephens led Southampton's defence in a brilliant performance against Crystal Palace and Juric made sure to give him his due on-field recognition.
Let’s be honest, every Southampton fan has had strong opinions about Jack Stephens in the past. Maybe as an incapable leader, a squad burden, or worse.
In fact, despite leading the Saints to a Championship promotion in his inaugural year as Captain, Stephens ended the campaign being one of the most criticised club players ever.
And if this season added anything, it only fueled the hate further. So much so that ex-boss Russell Martin sidelined him in his final days at Southampton.
But could anyone question his selection against Palace yesterday? Absolutely not. How could they? After all, the 31-year-old finally delivered what’s expected of a captain.
Leading the Saints backline, Stephens was crucial in helping his side dominate the game except for the end minutes. With key clearances and interceptions, he must've reminded fans of his past brilliance alongside his longtime partner, Jan Bednarek.
Now, while all of us stood united in criticising him, don't you feel we must acknowledge his recent heroics? Well, boss Juric has started the praise train we are tipped to follow.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, speaking about his performance after the game, Juric mentioned: "Good, very good. I think he did a good game. With this way that we are mixing high pressure and staying a little bit low, I think he can perform really well."
Honestly, after a fresh brilliant display from Stephens, the centre-back surely is Southampton's hero at this moment. But the question remains, how long can he continue so?
Not to forget, the 31-year-old's contract expires this summer, and a future successor of him feels ready in Ronnie Edwards. So, is this Stephens' farewell flourish, or will we see him lead the Saints beyond this season? Let's see.
