Indeed, Canadian striker Larin is set to complete a medical at Southampton today ahead of a move to the club, as per Pete O’Rourke via X.

Larin is currently contracted to Spanish outfit Mallorca, but has spent the first half of this campaign on loan with Dutch giants Feyenoord, where he has netted once in 15 appearances across the Eredivisie and Europa League.

Now, it looks like the 30-year-old Canadian international is set for a move to the South Coast before today’s deadline, opening the door for departures as Tonda Eckert’s side gets shaken up.

Larin is set to become just the second arrival at Southampton this month after Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz joined on loan from Bayern Munich.

The Canadian international is his nation's second-top scorer of all time, behind only Juventus’ Jonathan David, and is set to become a Saint should he pass his medical examinations.

The terms of the deal remain unknown, though it is likely to be a loan deal until the end of the season.

Once signed, this will allow both Adam Armstrong and Cameron Archer to leave the club before the deadline, with Armstrong the subject of a £7m + £2m achievable add-ons bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers, whilst Archer could be on the move to Scottish giants Rangers.

Larin will offer competition up top to Ross Stewart, who has had an injury-laden couple of years, though with the World Cup just months away, Larin will be eager to make an impression at St Mary’s to book his place in the Canada squad ahead of the tournament.

Larin began his career in the MLS with Orlando City before moving to Europe to play for the likes of Besiktas, Zulte Waregem, Club Brugge, Real Valladolid, Mallorca, and, most recently, Feyenoord.

Southampton is set to give Larin his first experience of English football, with the 30-year-old adding some depth and experience to Eckert’s attacking options, with both Armstrong and Archer potentially leaving the club.

Neither Armstrong nor Archer appeared in Southampton’s matchday squad for their 2-0 away win over Stoke City on Saturday, with it looking increasingly likely that one or two of the pair will leave before the deadline.

Larin has hit double digits for goals just once since moving to Europe in 2018, coming in the 2020/21 season with Besiktas, where he netted 19 times in the Turkish top flight.

A big physical presence up top, Larin will help to facilitate the likes of Leo Scienza, Finn Azaz, and Tom Fellows around him, as the Saints look to march their way up the table and towards the top six after a difficult start to the campaign.
