Southampton’s hopes of automatic promotion faded with a 2-2 draw against Bristol City at St Mary’s. In a game they had to win, Tonda Eckert’s side produced a leggy display and could not find a late winner.

According to Sainstmarching.com, Daniel Peretz was given five/10, with uncertain distribution and two conceded. James Bree also received five/10 before going off on 71 minutes, while stand-in captain Taylor Harwood-Bellis earned five/10 after a few misplaced passes. Nathan Wood was rated four/10 for slowing play with errors, and Ryan Manning also took four/10 after putting through his own net for City’s opener.

In midfield, Flynn Downes struggled to dictate and was marked at five/10 against a well-organised visiting side. Shea Charles received four/10, missing a late chance and being the only midfielder to complete the 90. Finn Azaz looked short of spark, rated four/10, his non-stop season may be catching up with him.

Kuryu Matsuki’s five/10 reflected a tidy but limited impact. Cameron Archer got six/10 after several efforts without reward, with Saints short of ball carriers before the break. Cyle Larin earned seven/10, linked well with direct passes and scored with an instinctive finish, making it goals in each of his last four Saints starts.

From the bench, Leo Scienza came on on 57 minutes for six/10, alongside Tom Fellows at 57 minutes for five/10. Caspar Jander was introduced on 71 minutes for five/10 and Ross Stewart at 71 minutes for six/10, with Cam Bragg appearing on 87 minutes, unrated. The search for a match-winner went unfulfilled.
