The first South Coast derby of the season will be free to air when Southampton host Portsmouth at St Mary’s on Sunday 11 October. ITV confirmed the broadcast, allowing supporters to watch without extra charges.
Kick-off is due at midday after the start time was moved from 3pm in July. The fixture falls on the first weekend back after the international break.
It is one of five EFL games being screened free of charge. Other Championship matches set for ITV coverage before the end of the year are Middlesbrough vs West Bromwich Albion, Millwall vs West Ham, Burnley vs Blackburn Rovers, and Birmingham City vs West Ham United.
Both league derbies last season ended level, a goalless draw at St Mary’s followed by 1-1 at Fratton Park.
This is the first time since 2005 that the rivalry will be played in consecutive seasons. Southampton’s away trip is scheduled for 28 February at Fratton Park, also set for a midday start.
