Victor Munoz Injury Update Gives Liverpool Fresh Hope Ahead of Spain v Portugal

Liverpool supporters have been waiting for a first proper look at Victor Munoz. So far, they have had to wait. The 22-year-old winger has not played a minute at the World Cup, and that absence quickly turned into concern about his fitness and whether pre-season might come too soon.

Now there is a clearer update. Spain boss Luis de la Fuente says Munoz is back working as normal, which puts him in the frame for Monday night’s last-16 tie with Portugal.

Victor Munoz back in Spain training

The key line from de la Fuente was simple and useful. “Yeremy’s [Pino] situation has been miraculous. It’s nothing serious; he has trained completely normally.” He then added, “Victor [Munoz] has also trained normally, but he hasn’t played competitively for a while, so we’ll see how the match unfolds.”

That last part matters. Match fitness and training fitness are not the same thing. Munoz may be available, but Spain are unlikely to throw him in recklessly in a knockout game unless the situation demands it.

For Liverpool, this is still good news. The concern had shifted from tournament involvement to basic availability for the summer. If he is training normally now, the chances of him reporting in ready for work improve considerably.

Spain v Portugal could offer first glimpse

Munoz arrived at Liverpool with less fanfare than most wide forwards linked with elite clubs, which is exactly why supporters want evidence. A surprise signing always brings curiosity. Why him, why now, and what level is he really at?

He may yet provide part of that answer against Portugal. Speaking recently, Munoz said: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a tough but exciting match where we’ll try to go toe-to-toe with them, and if we do that, we’ll be close to winning.

“I’m feeling better. I’m in good form with the team. I’m getting back into the swing of things, although it’s difficult because I’ve been out for quite a while, but I’m ready if the team needs me.”

Liverpool transfer decision now looks clearer

Liverpool moved quickly for Munoz and cut across another Premier League move to get the deal done. Clubs do not do that without conviction. They clearly see a player with upside, pace and tactical value, even if supporters have not seen enough of him yet.

If he features against Portugal, Liverpool get an early public audition. If he does not, the bigger point remains that his injury issue appears to be easing. For a club heading into a new campaign with questions out wide, that is the relevant detail. More on the latest Victor Munoz injury update will follow once Spain make their selection.
