Diego Enríquez checked a mobile phone before a penalty during Palmeiras’ 2-1 win over Sporting Cristal in São Paulo on Thursday in the Conmebol Libertadores.
After Cuenca fouled Arthur to concede the spot-kick, the keeper walked to the bench for water and to check information on possible Palmeiras takers. According to Globo.com, a staff member met him at the touchline and produced a phone, which Enríquez glanced at before returning to his area.
Referee Piero Maza, alerted to the incident, booked the goalkeeper. Flaco López then converted, Enríquez went the right way but could not keep it out.
Using electronic devices for in-game instructions by players or staff is prohibited by Fifa.
Last week, Corinthians forward Memphis Depay faced a disciplinary hearing after looking at his phone on the bench against Flamengo. He was cautioned by the STJD and avoided suspension.
