Tottenham stars Brennan Johnson and Ben Davies have reflected on what has been a “rollercoaster” year for the club.
Spurs won the Europa League, their first trophy in 17 years, during the last campaign but also finished 17th in the league. And this season they are currently 13th in the league after 17 games.
Reflecting on 2025, Johnson told Hayters in an exclusive interview: “It’s been a real mixture of everything. I think it’s been a bit like a rollercoaster. Some really good highs, but then also some tough times where we’ve had to stick together.
“Obviously, we’ve had a change of manager over the summer, so I think the back end of the year was always going to be a bit up and down. I think overall, the win in the Europa League definitely makes it a successful year, but there’s a lot that we want to improve on going into next year.”
Thomas Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer and has endured a tough start to life in north London.
Spurs have won just two of their last nine games in all competitions, and, already, pressure is starting to mount on the Dane.
Davies, one of the most senior members of Spurs’ squad, was asked what some of the key things are that the team need to improve on.
“I think there’s clearly plenty we can do a lot better,” he said. “The results have shown that. Look, it’s a process, right? In all aspects of the game we know we can do a lot better.
“I think we’ve had the new coach come in, who’s first got to have a bit of time to assess what’s going on and try and implement his style of football and things. I think that process is still ongoing.”
Tottenham only play at home once in their next four games, which, unusually, may be a blessing. They have won just twice at home in the league this season.
Davies and Johnson were speaking at Barnet Hospital’s Galaxy Ward for children and young people in a show of support for local hospitals around the Christmas period.
