St. Pauli’s Ricky-Jade Jones and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande ensured that the two fastest speeds recorded in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season were both recorded this weekend. Jones – during Friday night’s 0-0 draw against city rivals Hamburger SV – was clocked at 36.46 km/hr (22.66 mph). Diomande – featuring in Saturday evening’s 0-3 away win over Heidenheim – 36.40 km/hr (22.61 mph).
Prior to this weekend, Scottish speedster Oliver Burke served as the 2025/26 Bundesliga’s top sprinter with a clocked speed of 36.01 km/hr (22.43 mph). Bundesliga journalists knew from the moment Jones was signed away from Peterborough United this summer that it would only be a matter of time before his famous pace would manifest itself in the top flight. Unfortunately, Jones saw his Bundesliga debut delayed by a pre-season shoulder injury.
The 23-year-old Englishman still holds the world record for fastest ever clocked footballer, measured at 37.6 km/hr (23.36 mph) whilst playing for Peterborough United in the English third division back in 2024. The all-time Bundesliga record (which changed hands five times last year) also still belongs to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who was measured at 37.16 km/hr (23.09 mph) last year.
The 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign featured plenty more records. Heidenheim’s Sirlord Conteh twice became the fastest ever Bundesliga professional ever recored. Bochum’s Gerrit Holtmann and RB Leipzig’s Loïs Openda also took their turn at the top in addition to Bahoya. Holtmann (relegation) and Openda (loaned out) aren’t featuring in the German top flight this year.
Conteh hasn’t even cracked the top 20. Thanks to Heidenheim teammate Arijon Ibrahimovic, Conteh isn’t even the fastest player clocked at his club. One watches with great interest now that Sirlord’s younger brother Christian Conteh has moved up to join Sirlord at the top level. Perhaps both brothers may draw upon their “sibling rivalry” to motivate one another back into the race.
Bahoya, meanwhile, has been outdone by two of his Eintracht teammates: Ansgar Knauff and Nathaniel Brown. Notable speedsters Burke, Justin Njinmah (Werder Bremen), Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund), Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen), and Bazoumana Touré are being clocked at high speeds, but fall well short of the record.
Apart from Diomande and Jones, new Wolfsburg signing Adam Daghim is the only other new addition that has cracked the top 10 this year. The Danish attacker has achieved a top speed of 35.79 km/hr (22.24 km/hr).
