Lucas Paquetá settled the game in the 89th minute with a left-footed strike from outside the box, as Flamengo beat Santos 3-1 at the Maracanã.

Introduced after the break, Paquetá found a pocket outside the area, took a short pass from Gonzalo Plata and whipped his finish into the top left, a late strike that removed any jeopardy for Fla.

In the 11th minute of second half stoppage time, he slipped in Bruno Henrique for a shot that was blocked, evidence he was still dictating the final metres as Peixe chased a response.

Paquetá's control under pressure told in the numbers: 18 of 23 passes completed, six successful final third passes and a key pass. He also won possession three times and made a clearance, helping Mengão close the contest on their terms.

Because he operated between the lines with fresh legs, Santos' midfield screen kept getting dragged out, and his timing on the half-turn repeatedly put Alvinegro Praiano on the back foot.

Fla rise from seventh to fifth in the table. They visit Cusco in the Libertadores next. Peixe drop from 13th to 16th and travel to Dep. Cuenca in the Sudamericana.

How high would you rate Paquetá's performance tonight?
