Patrick Bamford broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a low left-footed finish, setting up Sheffield United's 2-0 win at Watford.
Early on, he tested Egil Selvik with a firm header (9.). Moments later, the striker drew another save with a left-footed effort from the left side of the box (17.).
After the restart, he punished space again, steering a left-footed shot into the bottom left from the centre of the area (50.). He then arrived at the back post to turn in Femi Seriki's cross from the right (59.).
He finished with four attempts, all on target, plus six touches in the box and four aerials won, underlining how he provided a constant reference point for the Blades.
The Blades rise from 17th to 12th and host Blackburn Rovers next. The Hornets drop from 12th to 13th and visit West Bromwich Albion next.
