It’s been quite the 24 hours for Joao Pedro.

On the one hand he’s been named Chelsea’s player of the season in an award voted for by the fans. On the other, he’s been rather shockingly left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad despite that strong campaign.

We’re not Brazil experts, but looking at the forwards they have picked, it does seem amazing JP isn’t in there. Not just because he’s had a good season, but also because his size and physicality offer something really different to their other options.

Igor Thiago had a great season and scored a lot of Premier League goals – do you think any Chelsea fan would trade him for JP, however? We wouldn’t.

Chelsea benefit from Joao Pedro snub this summer

In Chelsea terms, it’s actually great news. The former Brighton man will get a much needed summer off, and more time to work with new manager Xabi Alonso. The heartbreak – and possible perceived injustice – of this snub will hopefully help inspire him to be even better next season.

In other news…

It was a well deserved POTS award for the striker in any case, as he put together a strong second half of the season.

Enzo Maresca is going to replace Pep Guardiola at Man City, and that means Chelsea should get some compensation for their former manager.
