Liverpool lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League at Anfield last night.

They have now lost nine of their last 12 games, their worst run since the 1950s. The Reds face a fight to turn the tide, and manager Arne Slot is under pressure.

However, Steven Gerrard has insisted that Liverpool are not in crisis.

Gerrard said the word crisis is ‘disrespectful’ to the players and manager who just won the title months ago.

He said (via TNT Sports), “With each defeat, it gets closer to being a crisis. I don’t think Liverpool are at that (yet). Crisis is too strong.

“There are no excuses for a performance like that at this football club. You cannot deny that the team is struggling massively.

“They are on a terrible run. Their confidence is at an all-time low. They are wide open.

“Unless the manager can find answers and stability in his team, then this situation is going to continue.”

Liverpool are running out of answers

While Gerrard’s stance is measured, even he concedes that Liverpool are heading into dangerous territory.

The club cannot keep leaning on past achievements while the present continues to unravel at this pace. Slot needs solutions, and he needs them fast.

Liverpool are searching for structure, belief and a foothold in a season that is slipping away.

More setbacks, and even Gerrard’s insistence that ‘crisis’ is too strong a word may no longer ring true.

The coming weeks will reveal whether this is a temporary wobble or the beginning of something far more damaging.
