The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva has upheld André’s two-match suspension for violent play against Vasco, meaning the Corinthians midfielder will miss Sunday’s home clássico with São Paulo in the 15th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
He was shown a straight red card at 44 minutes of the first half in that match. According to Globo.com, the STJD’s full bench later met on Thursday at the OAB headquarters in Fortaleza, Ceará.
The tribunal ruled unanimously. He was punished last week under Article 254 of the CBJD for the challenge on Thiago Mendes.
Corinthians’ legal department lodged an appeal seeking a reassessment of the sanction. The panel comprised Luiz Felipe Bulus, Rodrigo Hayashi, Antonieta Pinto, Mariana Barreiras and Luis Otávio Veríssimo Teixeira.
On Friday, head coach Fernando Diniz will be judged over comments made at a press conference in Mirassol after the 2-1 defeat to the hosts, and could face a touchline ban of up to six matches for criticising the refereeing.
