Leeds United’s Tampa Bay supporters are mobilising for the club’s pre-season return to the United States, with Wrexham due in Tampa on Saturday 25 July.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Raymond James Stadium will host Daniel Farke’s side, Leeds’ first game in America since 1997.
Group organiser John Myers, originally from Goole, studied in Leeds then moved across the Atlantic 22 years ago. He started a Facebook group around six years ago, which has grown to roughly 320 members. Around half are local to Tampa Bay, with others travelling from places such as Sarasota and Miami, alongside a solid American contingent and many expats.
Between 15 and 60 fans gather for matches, currently at Grand Central Brewhouse in St Petersburg. They plan to return to a previous venue, an English-style pub run by a Manchester United fan whose welcome included displaying Leeds memorabilia and serving half-time sausage rolls.
The group recently hosted club great Stuart Dallas and actor Matthew Lewis at a Premier League Mornings live event in April, even offering Guinness topped with a Leeds crest.
Myers said the club have been gauging ideas for the tour and could collaborate on events for travelling supporters. Plans are still being decided and nothing specific has been confirmed, but the group are hopeful of similar activities. With a World Cup on the horizon, it is shaping up to be an exciting summer for US-based supporters.
