Stuttgart hope to keep Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel permanently, amid suggestions he is unlikely to have a long-term future in Bavaria.
The 29-year-old has become one of the Bundesliga’s standout goalkeepers during Stuttgart’s resurgence. Bild claims Stuttgart think they could keep him if Bayern struggle to offload him elsewhere, potentially at a package the club can accept.
He is due to return to Munich in the summer after three years away on loan. Talks are understood to be set for spring, but a permanent return is considered unlikely despite his contract running until 2023.
The major obstacle remains Nübel’s salary, estimated at around €10-11 million per year. Under the loan agreement, Stuttgart pay roughly one third, with Munich covering the remaining two thirds.
Bayern already possess the next designated successor to Manuel Neuer in Jonas Urbig, who has already proved himself several times in the club’s goal.
World Cup winner Neuer does not appear close to retiring either.
