“Submitted an offer” – Two top transfer sources contradict each other over “bid” for first choice winger

Things are really heating up on the Chelsea transfer front, with two top sources contradicting each other in the last hour.

The subject is the future of one of our first team regulars from last year – Noni Madueke. Despite playing a lot and generally being a first choice option for Enzo Maresca, the rumours about a departure for the winger have never quite gone away. Newcastle were heavily linked last summer, and this time around it’s been Arsenal mentioned the most.

German insider drops Madueke bomb

Florian Plettenberg’s Tweet about Noni Madueke.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany usually focuses on Bundesliga gossip, but in this case he’s dropped an exclusive on Madueke and the Gunners. He says that Arsenal “have already submitted an offer” for the 23 year old winger as they look to upgrade their wide options.

We suspect both Chelsea and Madueke would be open to a move, if Mikel Arteta’s team put in a bid big enough to be tempting.

Romano strikes back with counter claim about bid

Big dog Fabrizio Romano has previously reported on a lot of the Madueke chatter, and he wasn’t going to be gazumped here.

He jumped online less than ten minutes later to confirm that the former PSV winger is “one of the names on Arsenal’s shortlist” but added that there had been “no bids or proposals yet.”

In general we’d trust Romano, but either way it’s certainly an indication that a move is coming closer. Some fans will be happy, some won’t. At the moment we’re pretty short on the wing, even with the impeding arrival of Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens. If Madueke goes, we would expect another signing later in the summer, depending on how ready Estevao Willian is seen to be for his first season in the Premier League.
