In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Sunderland are in the running to land Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott. It has been claimed that the Black Cats would have to compete with Crystal Palace and Coventry City in the race to sign the English talent this off-season.

Elliott’s Disappointing Loan Spell At Aston Villa Last Season

Elliott endured a frustrating loan spell at Aston Villa recently as he struggled to earn regular first-team starts for them in the Premier League. The 23-year-old made just nine appearances for the Villans last season, scoring one goal in the process across all fronts.

Despite having such a disappointing loan spell, Elliott remains one of the most talented playmakers in the Premier League. Thus, it is no surprise that Sunderland are in the mix to sign him this summer.

His current deal at Anfield will run out at the end of next season, which could open the door for the Black Cats to land him on the cheap later this year.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Snap Elliott Up This Summer?

Elliott is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.

The English sensation mainly functions as an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. Elliot has already got some experience in the Premier League. He won’t take much time to adjust to life at Sunderland if they can devise a way to land him in this transfer period.

We can expect Elliott to bring more quality and depth to Regis Le Bris’ frontline. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light.
