Sunderland have begun addressing season ticket grievances raised by fan groups, with supporters understood to have been offered solutions after direct contact from the club, according to Sunderland Echo.
Fans had reported problems with the renewal process, including being unable to move from corporate packages back to general admission despite long service, alongside direct debit and ticketing issues. The club told RAWA it would review individual cases and contact fans, a step forward.
One case was Steven Poppleton, who has followed Sunderland for 40 years and held a season ticket for two decades. He sought to move from the premium 76 Yards area to general admission after the death of his father, George, whose mobility issues influenced the upgrade. He was initially told to join the waiting list despite his long record.
After his case was highlighted and raised by RAWA, Poppleton received a Friday afternoon call from the club with an apology and an offer of general admission seats. He said RAWA had indicated the club would be in touch by Monday, praised the Branch Liaison Council for support, and thanked those who amplified his case while hoping others are helped.
Other supporters have received encouraging updates during renewals. In at least one case this includes a resolution on ticket access for next season and recognition of existing loyalty discounts. Not every case is resolved, but recent movement suggests the club has begun to act on issues flagged by fans and groups.
