Sunderland have cancelled a batch of away tickets for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at St James’s Park after what it called a large-scale breach of rules, with 65 seats returned to sale at 12pm today, the club said in a statement.

A review identified a supporter who had misused their allocation, and tickets purchased by that individual were cancelled in line with away ticket policies.

The club remains committed to ensuring allocations go to genuine fans and to protecting the integrity of the process. Breaches of ticket terms may result in cancellations and potential suspension from attending matches at the Stadium of Light.

The additional seats are expected to attract strong demand as away supporters finalise plans to travel to Tyneside.

Earlier this season, the Black Cats won the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light 1-0, credited as a Woltemade own goal.
