Sunderland have confirmed Ahmed Abdullahi has joined Süper Lig club Eyüpspor on a permanent deal, ending his two-year stint on Wearside without a senior appearance.

The Nigerian forward moved to the Stadium of Light from Belgian side Gent in August 2024, signing a four-year contract after impressing at youth level.

He scored 21 goals in 38 league matches for Jong Gent and made two senior outings before heading to England.

A series of injuries curtailed his progress at Sunderland and he did not break into Régis Le Bris’ first team, despite periods training with the senior group.

He was absent from the first-team squad for last month’s pre-season win at York City, instead playing for the under-21s against South Shields. Talks with Eyüpspor then advanced and he will now aim to secure regular senior football in Türkiye.

Abdullahi previously trialled with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund before choosing Gent. He has represented Nigeria at under-20 level, featuring at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and scoring twice in seven appearances.
