Sunderland have confirmed academy midfielder Harrison Jones has joined League One Peterborough United on a permanent deal, the club said in a statement.
A boyhood Sunderland fan, Jones progressed through the academy and featured prominently for the U21s while training with the senior squad. He made his first-team debut in February 2025, coming off the bench in a 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday, and was named in several matchday squads last season.
He captained the U21s in the Premier League Cup final in May. Sunderland had recently exercised an option to extend his contract for another season, but had already told him he was free to explore opportunities this summer.
No fee has been disclosed. It is understood Sunderland have secured financial protection should Jones thrive at Peterborough and move on again.
Peterborough welcomed the signing and highlighted his ambition and early first-team exposure at Sunderland. Jones viewed leaving his boyhood club as a difficult decision but the right step to pursue regular football, and he was keen to have the move completed before pre-season.
