Sunderland face a raft of contract calls this summer as their push for European football continues.

According to Sunderland Echo, despite a 4-3 defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday, they are 11th, four points off sixth with a game in hand. That place could yet carry Champions League qualification depending on the Europa League.

Their top-flight return has been powered by last summer’s spend on Brian Brobbey, Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs and Nordi Mukiele. Attention now turns to contracts.

Deals up in summer 2026 include Simon Moore, Bertrand Traore, Lutsharel Geertruida, Dennis Cirkin and Dan Neil. For 2027 the list features Reinildo Mandava and Luke O’Nien. Xhaka and Anthony Patterson run to 2028, Mukiele and Brobbey to 2029, while Trai Hume, Roefs and Dan Ballard are among those tied to 2030.

Traore started brightly but has been out since early March and has one goal, so a renewal looks unlikely. Neil is on loan at Ipswich Town and it has been confirmed he will not get fresh terms. Cirkin has been sporadic but dependable, and Sunderland may view him as a budget back-up, although he will want more minutes.

Geertruida has been influential for Regis Le Bris across several roles and the club would like to keep him beyond his loan, though Le Bris says it is still too early to discuss. Sunderland will also monitor those entering their final year, notably Reinildo Mandava and Luke O’Nien.
