Sunderland will lose a number of players next week, with Dan Neil, Dennis Cirkin, Bertrand Traore and Niall Huggins set to leave when their contracts expire.
The club confirmed the stance in their retained list earlier this month, with Cirkin departing on a free after helping deliver two promotions on Wearside.
A number of Academy of Light prospects will also depart. Oliver Bainbridge, Marshall Burke, Dan Cameron, Thomas Lavery, Elias Lenz, Ethan Moore, Adam Richardson, Rhys Walsh, Jake Waters, Ivan Struk and George Bell will be released.
Attention now turns to several major contract calls as players move into the final 12 months. It comes ahead of what is billed as one of the club’s most exciting recent seasons, with Regis Le Bris’ side competing in the Europa League.
For summer 2026, the retained list records four departures and Lutsharel Geertruida as a loan.
Among those contracted to summer 2027 are Reinildo Mandava, Luke O’Nien, Abdoullah Ba, Simon Moore, Alan Browne, Nazariy Rusyn, Arthur Masuaku, Aji Alese and Zak Johnson. Deals running to 2028 include Granit Xhaka, Wilson Isidor, Romaine Mundle, Ahmed Abdullahi, Jenson Seelt, Timothee Pembele, Anthony Patterson and Leo Hjelde. To 2029 are Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Brian Brobbey and Enzo Le Fee, while to 2030 include Trai Hume, Simon Adingra, Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra, Chris Rigg, Eliezer Mayenda, Dan Ballard and Nilson Angulo.
