Sunderland are gearing up for a rare European adventure after a seventh-placed finish in their first season back in the Premier League secured a Europa League spot. Regis Le Bris’ side will share the stage with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Marseille.

Sunderland Echo notes it will be only the second European campaign in the club’s history, so attention has turned to whether the squad hold enough know-how.

Nine current players have never featured in European competition, yet 13 team-mates combine for 366 appearances across qualifying, group and knockout phases of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Among those, Wilson Isidor has three outings, two in the Europa League and one in Champions League qualifying. Trai Hume has five, one in Champions League qualifying and four in Conference League qualifying.

Melker Ellborg has seven to his name, five in the Europa League and two in Champions League qualifying. Enzo Le Fee has nine, all in the Europa League.

Taken together, Sunderland head into Europe with a meaningful base of experience already inside the dressing room.
