Sunderland are in talks with Turkish Super Lig side Eyüpspor over a potential move for striker Ahmed Abdullahi. Sunderland Echo understands that negotiations are ongoing.
The 22-year-old was left out of Régis Le Bris’ first-team squad for Saturday’s 5-1 pre-season win against York City. He instead played for the under-21s against South Shields, a sign of his current standing.
The Nigerian joined from Gent in August 2024 on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. Injuries have so far stopped him making a competitive senior appearance.
He previously drew interest from major European clubs, spending time on trial with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund in 2021 before signing for Gent. Abdullahi has represented Nigeria at under-20 level and was picked for the 2023 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations.
His route to the first team currently appears limited, with Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor ahead of him in Le Bris’ plans. Young forward Trey Ogunsuyi has also featured during pre-season, while extra Premier League, domestic cup and European fixtures could open chances across the squad.
A switch to Eyüpspor could offer the 22-year-old regular senior football after a frustrating spell on Wearside. No agreement has yet been finalised.
