In a recent report on Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon stated that Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson is on the radar of Wrexham this summer. It is understood that the Championship club are planning to move in for the English club but would prefer to sign him on loan from the Black Cats this off-season.

Patterson’s Impressive Loan Spell At Millwall Last Season

Patterson enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Millwall in the previous campaign as he put in a run of solid displays for them in the EFL Championship. The English custodian conceded 14 goals and kept seven clean sheets in 16 matches for the Championship outfit last season across all fronts.

The 26-year-old is currently among the most talented keepers in English football. However, he has fallen behind Robin Roefs in Sunderland’s pecking order and could benefit from sealing a move away from the Wearside club this summer.

His current contract at the Wearside club will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Regis Le Bris is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in this ongoing transfer window.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Cash In On Patterson?

Patterson is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid saves at the back for his team. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when being chased down by the opposition attackers.

Standing at 1.89m, the English sensation can use his strong frame to dominate his penalty area and doesn’t hesitate to come out his six-yard box to collect crosses and loose balls when needed. However, he is still unproven in top-flight football and won’t be guaranteed regular first-team football if he decides to stay at the Stadium of Light beyond this summer.

At 26, Patterson has got his best years ahead of him and would only improve as a keeper with each season. However, he has to ensure regular playing opportunities to further his development on the field.

Hence, it is only fair to the player if Sunderland allow him to leave in this transfer period. Regis Le Bris could use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement later this year.
