Sunderland, Sheffield United and Wrexham are all keen on Wolves' Tommy Doyle, who is expected to leave Molineux this summer.
Sunderland are emerging as frontrunners to sign Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle, with the ex-Man City man expected to leave Molineux this summer.
The 23-year-old joined Wanderers in the summer of 2023 from the Etihad Stadium on an initial loan, which was later turned permanent 12 months on.
Doyle has gone on to make 50 Premier League appearances in Old Gold over the past two years, but he has fallen down the pecking order since Vitor Pereira’s arrival back in December.
Andre and Joao Gomes are understandably the first-choice pairing, but Doyle has even dropped below the likes of Marshall Munetsi and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde as backup to the Brazilian duo.
Therefore, you would expect Doyle to push to leave this summer in a bid for more game time, with Wolves unlikely to stand in his way.
And, it appears there is plenty of interest in the former Man City youngster, as TEAMtalk has revealed that Sunderland, Sheffield United and Wrexham are all tracking the player.
Unsurprisingly, they state that it’s the Black Cats who are leading the race right now, as they will be able to offer Premier League football to Doyle.
However, the Championship duo are keen, and Doyle is likely to be in their price range, as the update claims Wolves could sell the England youth international for as little as £3m.
The appeal of Sunderland is obvious, as they are a big club who are in the top-flight, so if they do formalise their interest with a bid, you would expect Doyle to go there.
But, Doyle will have been frustrated at not playing week in, week out with Wolves, and there’s every chance something similar could happen at the Stadium of Light.
If Sheffield United or Wrexham could convince Doyle to drop to the Championship then it would be a real coup, as he could be a standout player at this level.
Whilst he may lack the physicality to mix it with the elite, he is excellent on the ball, offers a set-piece threat, and is a leader.
