According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are assessing targets across Europe and South America, with links to a £39m double move for Kerim Alajbegovic and Grêmio defender Viery. Florent Ghisolfi is preparing a busy window to bolster Régis Le Bris’ squad for Premier League and Europa League commitments.

Reports in Italy claim Roma have reopened talks for Bayer Leverkusen winger Alajbegovic after Gian Piero Gasperini’s approval. The 18-year-old impressed with Salzburg and Bosnia’s youth teams, prompting Leverkusen to activate a buy-back after selling him last summer. His fee is put at about €30million, roughly £25.9million, and he is said to be keen on working under Gasperini.

Reports in Brazil say Sunderland, Roma, Tottenham, Newcastle and Brighton have made enquiries for Viery. Fiorentina and Juventus are reported to have had approaches rejected. Grêmio are thought to want more than €15million, around £13million, plus a sell-on.

De Telegraaf reports Lutsharel Geertruida would have considered a Feyenoord return had Robin van Persie stayed, but that picture has changed. His loan from RB Leipzig to Sunderland has ended, leaving a Rotterdam comeback less likely.

Oxford United, Wigan and York are competing for defender Zak Johnson after a standout loan at York, where he helped win National League promotion. With first-team competition intense, his next step may come elsewhere.

TEAMtalk says Hull City are weighing up a move for former captain Dan Neil, with Rangers in active talks and hopeful of a deal as Hull consider joining Middlesbrough in the race. Neil’s expected exit remains a major theme after he captained Sunderland back to the top flight.
