Sunderland have been linked with Lucas Stassin, Emil Holm and Lutsharel Geertruida as summer plans take shape.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Saint-Etienne striker, 21, is expected to move after 11 goals and eight assists in 31 Ligue 2 matches last season. Early approaches are said to have been rejected. The asking price is set at €35 million plus €seven million, roughly £29.9 million plus £six million, around £35.9 million overall.
Porto are reported to have concrete negotiations ongoing for Stassin, which could complicate any Sunderland move. The Portuguese side won the league title last season and can offer a major European platform. Sunderland would also fit the step up he is believed to be seeking, with Premier League football under Régis Le Bris and Europa League next season.
Stassin has come through Belgium’s youth ranks and has been capped at senior level. His age, profile and output suit Sunderland’s model of signing players who can impact now and carry future resale value.
The Black Cats are working on defensive options too, with Florent Ghisolfi aiming to drive down the price for Lutsharel Geertruida after his loan from RB Leipzig. The Dutch defender is rated at around £20 million and is currently at the World Cup.
Sunderland are also among the admirers of Bologna’s Sweden international Emil Holm, who spent last season on loan at Juventus. He is valued in the £10 million to £20 million range, a bracket the club used for Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete.
