According to Tele Radio Stereo, Sunderland have asked Roma for information on winger Matias Soulé, with the Serie A club valuing him at just over €35million, around £30million. The approach is said not to have moved beyond an initial enquiry.
Soulé, 23, an Argentina under-20 international, could consider a Premier League move, despite interest from Saudi Arabian clubs and links with Borussia Dortmund.
Sunderland’s interest carries an obvious connection, as Florent Ghisolfi now works on Wearside after serving as Roma’s sporting director and helping bring Soulé from Juventus in 2024.
The left-footed right winger began at Kimberley and Vélez, joined Juventus in 2020, progressed through the youth and Next Gen sides, then debuted for the first team in 2021 and gained Champions League minutes.
On loan at Frosinone in 2023-24 he finished as their top scorer with 11 goals and led Serie A for successful dribbles.
He moved to Roma in 2024 in a deal reported at around £23.9million plus £3.4million in bonuses. Last season he scored seven times in all competitions across 42 appearances, 33 in Serie A, and is noted for his dribbling, set-piece delivery and creativity from the right, having previously drawn comparisons with Ángel Di María.
