According to Calcio Mercato, Sunderland, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have made enquiries over a possible deal for Juventus and France midfielder Khephren Thuram. The report also lists Manchester United and Liverpool as admirers, with Paris Saint-Germain, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce also interested.
Sunderland are yet to make their first signing of the summer as they prepare for their maiden Europa League campaign. They were boosted by indications Granit Xhaka looks set to stay despite strong interest from Chelsea.
Director of football Florent Ghisolfi said last month that stability will be the focus for the remainder of the window. He cited Athletic Bilbao as an example of continuity, said last summer required a refresh, and added he prefers to work with the current squad this time.
A variety of players have been linked with Wearside in recent weeks. Doubt is said to remain over Thuram’s future with the Serie A club.
Newcastle recently banked £115m from the sale of Elliot Anderson. Incomings at Sunderland are still expected, though the approach is set to be measured.
