Ajax have confirmed that Jordan Henderson’s contract with the club has been terminated with immediate effect. The England international had a year to go on his deal with the Amsterdam club, but at his request the club have agreed to end the players deal. The 35-year-old is now able to return to the Premier League, with his childhood club Sunderland already one of the sides rumoured.
Henderson spent one and a half seasons with Ajax and despite his advancing years was a regular for the club during the 2024/2025 campaign. He played 45 times across all competitions, scoring once and providing six assists. Henderson joined Ajax from Al-Ettifaq after playing just 19 games in Saud-Arabia. Prior to that, Hendeson had spent over a decade with Liverpool, enjoying Premier League and Champions League success as he made just under 500 appearances. It is almost 15 years since he left Sunderland to join Liverpool and their return to the Premier League has many speculating that he will end his career back where it started.
