Sunderland share cheeky Granit Xhaka post after he commits amid Chelsea interest | OneFootball

Sunderland fired a cheeky social media reminder to fans on Friday night after Granit Xhaka reaffirmed his commitment to the club this week.

According to Sunderland Echo, Chelsea have not given up on the 33-year-old, with Xabi Alonso keen to reunite after their time at Bayer Leverkusen, but Sunderland are reassured their captain will stay and lead them into European competition next season.

The club rejected a 38 million bid from Chelsea last weekend, a figure viewed as derisory given Xhaka’s influence on and off the pitch. He considered the move before deciding to remain on Wearside and safeguard his bond with supporters.

Soon after the news broke, Sunderland’s accounts referenced the fans’ chant for their captain in a pointed post. Xhaka shared it on his own pages.

They also published footage of him singing along to Can’t Help Falling In Love With You on the final day at the Stadium of Light with his family, with a caption underlining his Sunderland status. He reposted that clip too.

Switzerland will be back in action on Tuesday as they face either Colombia or Ghana in the World Cup last 16, and Xhaka will be involved.
