Sunderland are reportedly plotting an ambitious move to bring Manchester United winger Amad Diallo back to the Stadium of Light, according to the i Paper.
Diallo’s previous stint with the Black Cats proved transformative. Under then-manager Tony Mowbray, the young attacker bagged 14 goals and four assists in 42 appearances.
His technical brilliance, flair and knack for spectacular goals were instrumental in guiding Sunderland to an unlikely play-off finish.
He was subsequently named PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year and Sunderland’s Young Player of the Year.
Diallo has subsequently become a first-team regular at United but is currently enduring a dip in form.
He has yet to register a goal or assist for Manchester United in 2026 and was underwhelming off the bench against Liverpool last time out.
Despite flashes of his talent, the 23-year-old’s consistency has been an issue.
While United have shown no inclination to sanction his exit, they could opt to part ways this summer as they prepare for a return to the Champions League.
Sunderland’s chances of pulling off an unlikely move for Diallo would be boosted by securing European football.
Regis Le Bris’ side are four points adrift of Brentford in seventh, with just three matches remaining.
