According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland will have a front-of-shirt sponsor during the 2026-27 season despite online rumours that the new home shirt would remain blank.

The club unveiled their latest Hummel home kit on Tuesday without any branding across the front. The clean look pleased supporters, but its presentation sparked talk that the Black Cats could play the whole campaign without a main partner. The club have indicated a new commercial partner will be announced in due course.

The arrangement was first hinted at during the away kit launch, when buyers were told that shirts purchased before the reveal could later have the sponsor applied. Further guidance on the process will follow once the partnership is unveiled.

Launching unbranded appears to be down to the timing of the agreement rather than an intention to stay sponsorless. The announcement date remains unclear and the company involved has not been identified.

The agreement comes ahead of a significant campaign, with Sunderland competing in the Premier League and Europa League. Boosting commercial revenue remains a key strand of the club’s growth plans as Florent Ghisolfi and Régis Le Bris prepare the squad for European demands.
