Sunderland enter a pivotal summer as they build for a historic European season. The Premier League has confirmed the 2026 window opens on Monday, June 15 and closes at 11pm on Tuesday, September one.

Regis Le Bris’ side sealed Europa League qualification with a home win over Chelsea on the final day, ensuring the Stadium of Light will host competitive European football for the first time. They face at least eight extra matches in the league phase alongside Juventus, Marseille and AC Milan. According to Sunderland Echo, these dates frame a busy summer of planning.

Former defender Darren Williams has warned that squad depth will be essential for such a schedule. Transfer links have already surfaced, with Wrexham said to be monitoring goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, while forward Eliezer Mayenda is reportedly attracting attention from Championship newcomers West Ham United.

Clubs can agree deals before opening day, which is why some moves have looked done since the season ended. Registrations only go through once the window is open, at which point transfers can be finalised with the Premier League.

After two summers of a seven pm deadline, this year the cut-off is 11pm. A deal sheet lets clubs confirm an agreement and gain two extra hours to finish paperwork. For an 11pm cut-off, it cannot be submitted before nine pm, and once lodged clubs have until one am.
