Sunderland resume their Premier League season on Sunday at two pm when they host Spurs at the Stadium of Light. The match matters after their Tyne-Wear derby comeback, with the Black Cats eyeing a top-ten push.
Spurs need points to pull away from the relegation zone. Roberto De Zerbi oversees his first game since replacing Igor Tudor after a full week with his squad. According to Sunderland Echo, both camps have mixed fitness news.
After an extra three weeks, Reinildo, Enzo Le Fee and Nordi Mukiele are expected to play bigger roles for the hosts. For Spurs, Conor Gallagher, Joao Palinha and Lucas Bergvall should feature more. Both clubs still face significant doubts and absences.
Guglielmo Vicario is a major doubt after hernia surgery during the break. He is expected back this month, but Sunday might come too soon. If so, Antonin Kinsky could start, his first outing since a first-half withdrawal in the Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Mathys Tel is available after a knock in the Nottingham Forest defeat, he has been pictured in training.
Dan Ballard is a major doubt with the hamstring issue that kept him out of the derby and Northern Ireland’s play-off loss to Italy. He has had a month since the Brighton defeat, but his availability remains unclear and Sunderland need not take undue risks.
Robin Roefs is a doubt after a hamstring problem. With around five weeks of recovery from what was not deemed serious, there is hope he could return this weekend.
