Sunderland are riding high after a 2-1 comeback at St James’ Park completed a league double over Newcastle United. Sitting on 43 points with seven games to spare, attention is already turning towards summer recruitment.
According to Sunderland Echo, the hierarchy will already be weighing up their options, and the outlet asked X’s AI chatbot, Grok, to predict potential moves.
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring, before Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey turned it around. With relegation far from view and an outside chance of Europe, priorities are sharpening. Sunderland have been solid at the back but short on depth, while the attack has misfired across the campaign.
Predicted arrivals include Armand Lauriente from Sassuolo for £18million, a wide threat with pace, dribbling and end product to suit counters. Charlie Cresswell of Toulouse is listed at £12million to add composed, aerially strong cover at centre-back.
Samu Aghehowa of FC Porto is earmarked at £35million as a 21-year-old striker combining physicality and finishing to complement Brian Brobbey. A record fee would be required for such a deal.
On the outbound side, Reinildo Mandava could fetch about £8million, freeing wages and refreshing full-back options given younger alternatives and a deal through 2027. Abdoullah Ba, 22, is put forward at £2.5million for regular minutes, with the Championship a plausible next step. Captain Luke O’Nien is mooted at £3million due to a reduced starting role and salary considerations.
