FC Bayern have won the German championship and the DFB Cup, and it was clear from their double victory that the record champions would face runners-up Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup

This also means that the Supercup will once again take place on the cup weekend, meaning that Bayern and BVB will play their first main round of the DFB Cup at a later date

Supercup takes place in Dortmund

By naming the Supercup after FCB legend Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away in January 2024, the DFL and the DFB are jointly honoring his services to German soccer. The Franz Beckenbauer Supercup is usually played between the German champion and the DFB Cup winner

However, since Bayern won the double, the runner-up moves up, which is customary and has always been the case in the past

This is the tenth time the two teams have met in the competition, with FC Bayern winning five times and BVB coming out on top four times. With eleven and six titles respectively, FCB and Dortmund are also the two most successful teams in Super Cup history.

After a short preparation period, the match is one of the endurance tests before the Bundesliga kicks off a week later. As champions, FC Bayern traditionally open the season on Friday. The opponent has not yet been decided and will only be revealed when the full fixture list for the coming season is announced. However, the DFL usually chooses an attractive opponent here.
