West Ham have decided to let Edson Alvarez depart east London this summer, its been reported by Claret & Hugh.
The Mexican international is the latest on a long list of players that Graham Potter has deemed surplus to requirements at West Ham, having been another who has seriously underwhelmed for some time.
Alvarez was originally seen as the defensive midfield replacement for Declan Rice when he arrived under David Moyes in the summer of 2023. Despite having a relatively strong start to life at the club, the booking-happy midfielder has dropped off and is one Potter wants to see the back of this summer.
The Mexico captain joins the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta, Emerson and Dinos Mavropanos who will depart this club as we look ahead to a huge summer rebuild.
Reporting on Claret & Hugh, Gonzo has revealed that the club will accept an offer in the region of £30m for Alvarez.
Although it is seen as a ‘big name’ to be joining the list of player exits, its fair to say that Alvarez hasn’t really established himself as a key figure, with many becoming tired of his lack of discipline and desire to be at West Ham.
Alvarez has regularly shown a desire for a bigger move, pretty much immediately after arriving, and with the likes of Freddie Potts heading back this summer, the sale of the Mexican makes a lot of sense.
